A podcast in which Maria Ross speaks with Kate Brookes, Jayna Sheats, & Jeannie Gainsburg, two of which live under this shadow of fear for themself and their child, and one who is a cisgender ally. We talk about what led them to this work, how the increase in anti-trans legislation impacts them, what it’s like to parent a trans teen, and poignant moments from their journeys. We also share simple yet impactful tips for you on how to be an ally as a manager, colleague and neighbor to support the trans community.
This podcast took place on 6 September 2024, at a time when there was hope for a friendlier national environment. Still, Kate said: “Dignity is at stake. LGBTQ rights are at stake. Right now, while my daughter has access to these things, a vote could take some of these necessities. They’re not privileges, they’re necessities. They’re what she needs. A vote could jeopardize her needs.”
Today that vote has happened. And it jeopardizes far more people than teenagers. All of us hope that you will listen, or read the transcript that is available on the podcast webpage, and consider what the politics of fomenting hate is doing to people who express and need love.
